SEMIOTICS

 SEMIOTICS:

It is a study of signs. Semiotics in terms of  Media is generating meanings. Semiosis is a processes of meaning making. A theorist FERDINARD DE DAUSSURE-THE FATHER OF SEMIOTICS Says: Language is an instrument of communication using signs in culture to communicate meaning.

Signs can be divided into two types:

1. Signifer

2. Signified

. SIGNIFER IS THE OBJECT ITSELF WHILE THE SIGNIFIER IS THE MENTAL CONCEPT OF THE OBJECT, FOR EXAMPLE:

A Rose, its a signifer but in what way its shown, how and where its shown will be the signifier.

Roses are shown as a sign of love but when it is shown on a grave or is shown fallen on the ground the mental concept of that rose changes, the meaning od that rose changes 

 From this i learned how everything in my final project would be a sign. So I have to take care of what and how things are being shown in my film.
